Mission Statement:

Our Mission is to "advance and disseminate knowledge and information concerning the art and science of spectroscopy and other allied sciences." Our local section recognizes professional researchers, graduate students, and undergraduate students through our awards programs. Since 1952 the New York/ New Jersey Local section of the Society for Applied Spectroscopy has sponsored the Gold Medal Award program, currently part of the Eastern Analytical Symposium and Exposition (EAS).

Five (5) Top Reasons to Join SAS and Attend Local Section Meetings:

  1. Fellowship— SAS provides  an avenue for meeting peers in the industry and, enhances camaraderie amongst professional scientists. Members globally can develop long-lasting friendships through participation in our local meetings open to everyone nationwide.
  2. Networking—Contacts made through the SAS organization can positively impact your effectiveness on the job and your career.
  3. Job Opportunities—Our website, networking opportunities, and job postings keep members informed of job openings at the local and national levels.
  4. Volunteerism—Members can volunteer to become local section officers.  Become an officer of SAS, mentor, or committee chairperson, looks great on your resume!
  5. Promotion of Science and Spectroscopy—Our local section is a huge advocate of our academic members and student population.  We especially encourage student involvement in our meetings and have meetings dedicated to student speakers and poster session.   Students and their professors are more than welcomed to give presentations at our meetings.

The stated objective of the Society is "to advance and disseminate knowledge and information concerning the art and science of spectroscopy and other allied sciences."
